Concept

IDEA 01 : Forest Choir

Educate children about the animals that make sounds in the forest, such as caterpillars, frogs, and woodpeckers. Each animal will be placed in a small environment.

Educate children about plenty of rain and sunshine make the plant grow faster.

IDEA 01

Try using wool felt as a material for the plants, merging hand-drawn animation and 2d. this is our preference.

IDEA 01

IDEA 02 : How a Plant Grow

Use a combination of live action and 3d, 2d. But we dropped it for stylistic reasons

IDEA 02

This one came from idea 02, was picked out because of the interesting shape.

Decisions & Challenges

Based on the advice of our art director and our preferences, the more interesting and diverse first idea was finally chosen. At the same time our art director suggested to us that the second idea had a better shape for the style chart, so we decided to combine the two ideas and use five different forms to complete our animation: 3d, 2d, stop-motion, cell-animation and tactile.

Rough Sketches & Ideas

Storyboard

We started by conceptualising five animals and doing some scene drafts.

Color Exploration

Consider the colour of the wool felt we use to determine the colour of the scene.

Animal Selection

Various animals were drawn for musical considerations.

Woolen Felt

Stop Motion

1st Pass Styleframe

This one serves as our target to confirm the style of the other styleframes. The challenge here is to harmonise the styles.

2nd Pass Styleframes

As a result of our collaboration, we were very close in style. After that our art director suggested the plausibility of the crocodile's presence in the forest. This led us to change the crocodile to a snake. The challenges we faced at this stage were the a lot of work and the constant revision of the scene composition.

Final Styleframes

Work with Kelly Warner

1St Pass Animatic

We decided on timing and pacing, and based on our theme, we decided that music was important, so with Kelly's help we created a simple children's song. It has an upbeat melody and animal sounds.

2nd Pass Animation

At this stage, we identified the movements of some animals and used them as standards to standardize the others. And some enhancements were made to our music, such as merging the sounds of all the animals in the final scene where they are all together. In addition, according to our art director's suggestion, we made some adjustments to the composition of the animals together at the end to make them look more integrated in one environment.

3rd Pass Animation

At this stage we have completed all the animations and music. Our art director gave us more detailed suggestions based on this, such as the melody of the music could use different instruments to express the animal sounds. For the animation of the animals, our art director thought that more exaggerated movements of the animals would make the animation more interesting.
